4 Ways Of Dealing With Your Old Junk Car

Posted on

Whether you have driven your car for hundreds of thousands of miles and it has eventually broken down, or you have a damaged car that you don't want to spend the money to fix, dealing with a junk car can be a hassle. The last thing you want is a broken-down car sitting in your driveway for an extended amount of time. If you have a junk car that you need to deal with, use the following tips:

Sell It

While most people are not interested in buying a used junk car, there are many companies that will pay you for your junk car and may even tow it away for free. These companies typically either have mechanics repair these cars and then sell them once they are running again or use them for parts or scrap. Selling your junk car takes care of your problem while also putting some extra money in your pocket.

Remove the Parts

Even if a car is damaged or does not run, that doesn't mean that it is completely worthless. If you are mechanically inclined, you may want to consider removing parts from the car that are in good repair and selling them. You can sell many auto parts on online marketplaces, or you may want to approach a local mechanic or auto repair shop to see if they would be interested in buying your parts. After selling the working parts, you can pay to have what's left of your junk car towed away and put the rest of the profits in the bank.

Send it to the Scrapyard

When you just want a junk car off of your property, contact a local scrapyard. They will often come out and tow away the car for you free of charge. Once your junk car is at the scrapyard, people may be able to take out parts and pay the scrapyard a discounted price. Eventually, your junk car will be recycled and the metal will be used for other purposes. Talk with a professional, like TVM Recycling, for more information on recycling.

Donate It

A number of charities receive a lot of funding through the donation of junk cars. For instance, many schools like donated cars so that they have real problems and issues to show students in shop classes. Like junk car buying companies, some charities may even repair the vehicle and then sell it or sell off the parts, but all of the profits are used for a good cause. In addition to knowing that your junk car is helping a charity, you can also use your donation as a tax write-off.
